It was sort of a "first warm weather" impulse purchase. I found out there was a special deal if you were trading in an off brand bike so I moved from a BMW to a Harley. I doubt that happens very much.
Actually it's not the first time I've done it. Back in 1973 I traded in an R60/5 for a Sportster. That was my first Harley and the new one is my 7th.
Actually I'm feeling a little buyer's remorse but I guess I'll get over it. The Dyna is not a very smooth bike. I've had 2 FLT bikes, so I'm used to the rubber mounted motors. The Dyna is a lot closer to the Sportster vibration-wise than it is to the FLT. The only time the motor is really smooth is when I'm accelerating hard in the top half of the power band. Just tooling around from 40-60 is pretty bad with the vibes. I'm going to test ride another Dyna just to see if they all do that or whether there's something wrong with my bike. My gut instinct is that it's a characteristic of the Dyna's rubber mounting system.
Welcome from Biloxi Mississippi! I just recently purchased my 2008 FLHTP with a 103ci, and it has alot of vibration at idle (handlebars / mirrors shake), until you get started moving good. The Suzuki C90 that I had previously was way smoother at idle... that's just the nature of the Harley beast, I guess.
