Recently purchased a lightly used 07 sportster 1200N from a dealer with 3000 miles. The dealer wants me to take it in at 4000 miles and do a $400.00 service. This seems extremely expensive and not worthit. Should I just learn to change the oil myself? If I wanted to pay out my **** for service, I would have bought a BMW!!
Seems like a lot of money for the 5K interval service... certainly wouldn't hurt to get a service manual, and at least do some of the maintenance (fluid changes, etc.) yourself - do as much as you are comfortable with.
Also, you can get prices for scheduled maintenance from independant service shops in your area... you might find that they are a good bit cheaper - best of luck in your decision. Ride safe.
Congratulations on your new Harley a great find. Mine has to go in at 5k miles.Welcome to a great Forum from Indy where we spend some time between rides!
You should of asked the dealer to ""throw in the service"" to close the deal ! Then you would really see if the service costs $ 400.00 Welcome to the forum

Ive seen that $400 price on the wall in the HD shop, but of the 5 services that Ive had done $240 is the most Ive ever paid, even with SYN oil in all three...
I'd ask them to make sure what to expect on cost. baggers and springers may be more?? I dont know.
IF they are stuck on the $$$, do a mentioned above, learn to DIY, or find a good local INDY.
