How long will it start????
I have a 2007 Ultra Classic with 29800 miles. I have the original starter and have had a grinding sound and poor starting for about 20000 miles. Harley tells me that the warranty won't cover the starter replacement until it completely fails!!! Sounds like hog wash to me. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get a quicker replacement or how to make this one last longer??? Thanks for any advice!!!

Since it is still under warranty, tell them to perform the required maintenance for the 2007 touring starter issues / problems as listed in HD Service Bulletin M-1231... the problem you are having is known, and they are trying to put you off... pm me your email for more info...

28.7k on ours and the starter still sounds and acts like new. I read an early fix bout the starter clunk issue. It said to take out some timing at 0 RPM's, had the tuner do it and the clunk was gone after that.

Found the thread that addresses the 2007 Touring Starter issue:

Within the above linked thread, there is a link to download the HD Service Bulletin M1231 - print that out and take it to your dealer, and have them perform the required repair modification under your extended warranty...
