I have read on the forum here that there has been issues on the 07 ultra classic starter issue when starting. It makes the grinding noise. Mine does it every once in awhile. usually once it warms up and I ride it for a while. Does Harley know this and are doing something about it? My classic is out of warranty. Was just wondering

Thanks Dawg, My 07 is just starting to act funny with 26K miles.

 

Dawg, does this mean Harley is going o cover the problem even the warranty on my bike has expired? My bike has 10,000 miles on it!

It depends on your in service date. I believe your warranty is, as is mine on my 07, 2 years. Mine is doing that stuff for the second time. I don't want to go into the B/S I had to listen to the 1st time it happened but Harley ended up replacing the starter drive and clutch drum assy. They did such a great job cleaning it up that when I changed my primary fluid I had teeth dropping out into the drain pan.

I think I have been having this problem with my 06 this is exactly what I have been experiencing and I am going in to take a look around and clean up the contact areas to see if it makes a difference?

 

I have a 07 and about two months ago my bike started to make a funny noise, sounds like a bell ringing right after it cranks over and starts. I know it never did it before and to me it sounds like it is coming from the starter or in that vicinity.
