Helen,
I have had my '03 Softail since new and have had NO problems....knock on wood somewhere..
Really tho, years ago Harleys had a bad reputation...nowadays they are as reliable as anyother bike but they never loose their worth...these guys are just jealous telling your husband that crap.....
Have a blast and ride safe...
Hi Helen, dont let the narrow mindedness of others stop you from enjoying the experience of owning & riding a harley, I bought a 2005 springer softail in febuary of this year
& have used it most days without missing a beat, the days of sliding a oil drip tray under the motor at night have long gone.
Untill going the harley route all my two wheeling had been done on Japanese n italian machines, i enjoyed them all but none leave you with as much feel good factor as the harley davidson.
On top of that you will be entering a international brother/sisterhood of great people, happy riding what ever path you take,

H-Ds are every bit as reliable as any other bike if not more so. They are well balanced and easy to ride. The softails are very comfortable and a pleasure to own. Sounds like someone is afraid your hubby will have the nicest bike in town. Keep the shiny side up!
Another perfect day in paradise. THE best place on Earth to RIDE!!!
Hello and welcome from Columbia, Missouri.
Here are a couple of thoughts that i believe.
#1 It's what he wants, if he settles for something else he'll regret it and be back (more money spent in the long run)
#2 Harleys are more than dependable, never had a bit of trouble with mine and it's not pampered.
#3 The folks that put down Harleys normally don't own one and never have. Likely they really want one and can't afford one.
#4 Folks wound'nt be buying them right and left if they were flawed. A great number of new Harley owners are older than your run of the mill metric rider. Older means less impulse and more research before they buy and they are buying tons of Harley's.
Good luck, hope it works out.
