Set up Charges ??

The set up charge is another revenue stream for the dealer. Harley Davidson PAYS its dealers a fee to uncrate and set up each bike. On my Limited my saleman said it was somewhere around $150. So dealers are basically double dipping. Getting paid by Harley and the buyer for the same service. My dealer adds about $165 to the MSRP for dealer set up. Not unreasonable IMHO. A dealer 60 miles away adds almost $400 at times. That's crap to me.

Bike business must be BOOMING in Montana! Here in NJ, my local dealer IMMEDIATELY - and up front, waived all fees and charges (except title and registration) and then we started talking discounts and trade in value. As a whole, the biking industry sucks right now. Of course here in NJ I have the option of running to quite a few different dealers. Just have to make sure that the aren't like owned (the same owner). The old supply and demand issue.
