You never hear a Harley guy explaining why he bought his Harley instead of a Jap bike do ya?
Actually, yea.

Probably not in the circles you run in though. But in mine, all the time.

I think this all depends on where you ride and who you ride with, and if the people you ride with buy into the harley mystique.

But most people don't care either way, I have found. Non riders thinke verything that doesn't have a sport fairing and a prone riding position is a harley davidson anyway...

When I bought Jap bikes in the past, it was simply because I could not afford a Harley. I will admit I bought into the propaganda that Harleys were not dependable, the riders where snobs etc, etc, but to be intellectually honest, the only reason was I wanted one and could not afford it. I think the Jap riders truly happy with their bikes could care less about Harley bashing. The ones that are not happy as I was when I bought one try to justify it by promoting the propaganda.

I've found that life is more enjoyable when you don't waste alot of time trying to please others and worrying about what they think.

I've also noticed over the years that the majority of the population is actually kinda stupid.

If you are happy, fine. When someone wants to tell my what they think about what I ride the first things I think of is:

1. Did I ask for your opinion?
2. Why are you telling me that?
3. Younger people for the most part have less life experience, so when they are talking I generally tune them out, as with women after about the first 5 mintues of talking.

I started on a '75 shovelhead sporty, i rode the **** of that bike and it never let me down, from there I got a 1983 flhtc and rode it from central florida to north alabama almost every weekend for three years, that was easily an 8 hour trip at 80 t0 90 mph, that shovel never let me down. these days I ride a 96 CI dyna with fuel injection, been riding it year round, it fires up on the coldest days, (get's down to around 8 degrees here sometimes), I've been riding it for almost 3 years now, and I haven't had a bit of trouble with it. I'll tell you this, When it's 8 degrees outside, and I'm riding to work, I haven't EVER seen one yamazuki rider out there. Don't listen to the posers, listen to guys who ride, and have been riding for years. If Harleys really suck then why are there so many IMITATION Harleys out there?

my bikes are seven and five years old niether of them have ever been to the dealer for any repair work or maintenace and they both still run better then the day i took them off the floor, most of the haters are the people that dont like to work on things period and get pissed when they have big charges levied against them for work they should be doing themselves.the harley motor is a strong motor and can with stand plenty of abuse if you maintain it properly i have yet to blow one up and yes i tried like hell, just ended up bending the pushrods.
