Hey Mike...another Connecticut resident here. Judging from you mentioning "Mikes Famous of Groton"....you're probably nearby. I'm across the river in Waterford...although originally from Stonington. What town you from?

Welcome to the boards.
Welcome back to riding

After a lot of reading, thinking, etc, I have decided to go with the 2011 Heritage in Blue pearl/Vivid Black with the ABS. Headed to Mike's tomorrow to make a deal and put down a deposit.

So I plan to pay cash. Is there any negotiating on prices similar to a car? Or would I be better served by working some kind of package deal to include a jacket, helmet, gloves, boots, etc?

Thanks,

Mike

I live down by Harkness Park in WTFD...but my office is up on Route 85....just north of the malls but before the i395 overpass.

I can't remember the sales guy I worked with for a bit at Mikes Groton...soon as you walk in the front door, first desk on the right. Fred or George. I didn't purchase my bike there...but in the past was going to use their "Dealer Assist" program to purchase a used bike from up in Hartford.

My wife knows Heidi..they went to school together. She's the pretty hot brunette that seems like the office manager there.

From reading around here..they don't seem to "budge" much in prices..especially Mikes chains. But I'd still treat it like a car dealer. What I've always done with cars...make an offer that includes "out the door" ....so you don't get hit with 88 different add-on fees. So "out the door" means everything done to it..registered, plates on, tuned up, ready for you to pull out of the parking lot.

What the dealer usually can budge on...is "accessories"...coupons to trade in at their way overpriced store. Since HD accessories are wicked high marked up....they dealer doesn't lose much money when they give you a 500.00 voucher (that probably cost them 79 bucks in total)

Welcome from Florida. ABS is great, the bike I have now is the first one I have ever had with ABS, been riding over 40 years, will not have another bike without it. Beware if you are riding with a group, the ABS is able to stop a little quicker, make sure if the person behind you doesn't have it, you give some space......

Thanks for the tips Stonecat. I am going to be getting Fox Creek leathers so I don't think I will be spending that much for accessories after all. Probably just boots and helmet from H-D. I don't want to be they guy that is wearing everything HD from head to toe, and the Fox Creek stuff seems to have very good reviews.
