So I don't have a bike yet, but I have gotten the go ahead from the wife to get one as she is tired of the gas bill for the Super Duty. So I am looking at a Heritage as I really like the cruiser looks and styling.
The local dealer (Mike's Famous in Groton, CT) has a 2009 with a Stage 1 kit and 5200 miles for $16,595. I am caught between this bike and a 2011. The sales guy was really pushing the ABS system on the wife.
So my question is, does the ABS system make that big of a difference? If braking hard enough ton activate the ABS, will the bike stay in a straight line? It seems to me that it might throw the bike sideways but obviously I could be wrong.
Looking for some input, the $3,000 difference in price between the 2009 and new will buy a lot of accessories.
Welcome Mike! You haven't said anything about your riding experience. I haven't ridden a unit with the ABS ( been ridin' for over 45 years though ) but I think I might jump on the 09 if for nothing other than the fact that some of the "usual" mods are already done.
welcome from north carolina, i have been riding for 40 years and have never had abs. I am sure it would be nice to have, but I would not let abs determine what bike i bought.
Thanks for the input folks. I will have to give the ABS some serious consideration. As for my riding experience, I haven't ridden in 20 years or so. I used to ride continuously prior to joining the military, both dirt and street.
Been a long time since I have been in the saddle, and I definitely plan to take a safety/defensive riding course.

Your looking at a big bike, maybe you have experience, if not go smaller. ABS s great and I and I had my 1st experience needing it this pat October, but if you have not been riding large bikes 1700 cc or 103's or larger, you are gonna have a hard time feeling the bike out. the power is going to be there, but are you going to be there for the power. This is not like the metric streets we have had in the past, big V-twins have a great deal of power. If you have not rode HD bikes before, try and get one one before riding two up. You will see what mean, if you have well than, no worries ride safe.
