Thanks Rhubarb for that link as it shows more location options for the MSF course than I had previously found and the one at Ft. Gillem might be do-able. Will check it out. Yes, the Riders Edge Courses are expensive!
Hey GAGirl. Thought our bikes were the same! ( A little hard to see your pic). I love my bike. I just started riding in July and I too still have alot to learn. My husband has ridden for twenty years and for the past couple has encouraged me to ride. I was really nervous but I finally took my MSF course and got my liscense. My husband bought me the bike the minute I said I was going to take the MSF course. I think he was afraid I would change my mind. So I was in the same boat as you and your husband.( the bike before the course). It is a bit intimidating but also so much fun. I practiced for many hours in a parking lot and have ridden with my husband. The more you ride the more comfortable you begin to feel. Just remember to have fun and be safe!
Welcome from NJ! Enjoy your new ride! Take your time...take the course & ride in your comfort zone. You'll build up confidence in a short period of time...ride safe & good luck!
Thanks guys and SportyN. Hopefully I can take in an MSF course soon.
If any of you have good suggestions about gear, i.e. helmets, chaps, boots, etc. Please don't hesitate to mention them. I've noticed alot of riders simply ride with a half helmet, leather jacket, jeans and boots? While others won't go out unless dressed in leather from head to toe. Any thoughts cuz you can drop some serious money buying the latest and greatest thing and I suspect you can still do it in moderation.
Also, I am reading Karen Larsen's Breaking the Limits about her riding her 1200 Sporty from New Jersey to Alaska and back. This was when she was 29 years old in 2000. It's a great read about the experience.
