I am going to start looking for my first HD within the next few months. I am probably going to have to purchase used to stay within my budget.
I was wondering if there are any things in particular to watch out for. Typically how many miles is the Twin Cam 88 good for with proper maintenance? What are some others thing to watch out for? Are there things that can easily be masked? I am probably going to be looking at a Road King. 2003-20xx. Are there are model specific problems to watch out for? I know Maintenance records, and riding the bike are probably one of the two best starting points.

Welcome from Virginia...My concern would be abuse and someone screwing around modifying the exhaust, cams, intake, reflectors and cats having no idea what they are doing. Then when it runs like crap they get rid of it. Of course they have thrown $2000 work of Harley engineered good parts away that you need to make it run correctly.
Welcome to the forum. I personally would avoid a bike that has had lots of engine mods. Nothing really above a stage 1. Also avoid really low mile bike. If a bike has only 1-2000 miles and is 5 or 6 years old the bike was probably never broken in well and not maintained well either. The worst bike I ever bought was super low miles. All the gaskets had dried out, carbs all needed work. Looked great, leaked and ran terrible.
