Just joined to find out if anyone else has a trannsmission that is about to fall off the bike. This is not my first HD, also have a 03 FXSTI, put 36,000 miles on her. Only reason I ordered the 07 was to get the 6 speed transmission. I believe that is a mistake. The girl at the dealership that went over all the features of the bike told me "you will hear a little noise in 5th gear. If it is too much, change to synthetic." I didn't think I would get it home because of the whine, clatter & clunk, and now there is a clunk every time the engine starts. I'm sick. Back to the dealership tomorrow. Anyone else having problems?

From what I hear the whine in 5th gear is a big complaint. Some do say it gets a bit better after breaking it in a bit. Try the Touring section of the forum you should find some help in there.
Yep, the noise in 5th is normal. It is really loud before completing breakin but the first fluid change quiets things down a bit. You get used to it after a while.
New to the forum also. just picked up a new 07 Ultra myself, 5th gear seems fine but I have a definate clunk when the engine starts, took it back to the dealer and they printed out a service bulletin from Harley stating that it's normal, compensator bottoming out but does not result in damage, started another 07 at the dealer and it did the same. Dealer said just ride and enjoy, other than that love the ride.
