Welcome to the forum. Go for it, you can always sell the bike later if it's not what you want. As far as the safety aspect, life is too short, enjoy it while you can, and I can't think of anything more enjoyable the riding my Harley. Well there is one thing.

My married buddy explained this to me a long time ago when he bought his wife a used Mazada Miata for 3000.00 I said to him what the heck do you need another car for?
His reply "look around the garage" his new 2003 Fat boy, his Kaw ZX750, his 2 dirt bikes, a pontiac Lemans and GTO, and a new GMC pickup.
