Big Time Newbie
Just registered and have been reading the forum for about a week now and I really like the content. Seems like a family affair. I live in Batavia NY and I haven't riden a bike since about 1980, and that was a Suzuki 250 road bike. I have a friend at work who has a 1999 heritage classic and he is looking to upgrade to a Ultra Classic, so needless to say I am very interested in acquiring his bike. My friend has offered the bike to me for $9200 and the bike has been well maintained. He has performed all of the maintenace himself (with the exception of installing new tires on the rims himself) and the bike is in really great condition. The bike has about 48, 000 miles and has never been dropped. My friend has offered to help me with "learning" the maintenance in the spring as he has a bike jack.
First question - Does it sound like the bike is a good buy? He says that he just wants the trade in vaule plus the sales tax credit he would get from the trade in...I think so.
Second - How do I convince my wife that I should get the bike? She is very worried about safety as that is the reason I stopped riding many years ago due to friends being killed.
I want this bike soooo bad I can taste it! Help me!!!!!!!!!
Answer #1. Might be a bit high for that mileage... Kelly Blue Book Trade in Value for my area 1999 HSC:
Trade-In Value (Good Condition) $8765*
Trade-in Value is what consumers can expect to receive from a dealer for a trade-in unit assuming an accurate appraisal of condition. This value will likely be less than you would receive from a private party sale because the reselling dealer incurs the cost of safety inspections, reconditioning and other costs of doing business. Trade-in values are based on clean units in good condition, with all original standard equipment. Mileage/condition and additional equipment may have a substantial impact on the value shown above.
Answer #2. Do like I did. Finally finish the basement like I was promising for ten years and take out $500K of life insurance.
