Purchased my first H-D yesterday: 2012 Ultra Classic Electra Glide. I lurked around here for quite awhile before I made my purchase, so many thanks to the folks that take the time to post.
I wanted to share this story:
Last week, I went to one of the local dealers in LV (both are owned by the same guy) and was asking about financing after seeing the 1% promo on the web. The salesman told me he thought he could get me 5-7% but said he wouldn't take an application unless I was 'ready to ride the bike out of the shop today'. I don't warm to sales tactics like that, so I walked.
I went to the other dealer yesterday and was looking at bikes when a sales guy approached me. Out of the gate he says, 'We've got a great financing promo through December. Would you like me to run a quick check to see if you qualify?' I said, 'Sure, but let's find a bike I like first.' lol....
I pick the bike I like, he takes maybe five minutes to run a quick credit check and tells me he can do the 1% with 10% down or 100% financing with zero down at 5.99%. I was all over the 1%, wrote the check, did the insurance thing, and after the 'meet the staff' tour, I was out of there in about an hour and a half.
I mention this because I read a couple of posts here that we're skeptical of the 1% deal (more accurately the amount down and credit score required to get the deal). I was 733 (nothing special), so if anyone is looking, now you know.
Dude at the sister dealer missed a sale because he wouldn't take a couple of minutes to run credit and he didn't even mention the 1%. Maybe he's independently wealthy and didn't need the commish...I don't know.
Anyway, glad to be here and I look forward to bugging you guys/gals with my questions. I do know how to use the 'search' feature, so maybe I won't be a major PITA.
Welcome, from northern Indiana where we have a 7 month riding season (in a good year). Enjoy your Ultra riding around Red Rock and other beautiful areas out there in the desert/mountain terrain. Us folks from "flatland" have to ride hundreds of miles to find mountains. Anyway, have fun with your new ride.
