Default Hello from upstate NY and a question

Hello to the forum members here. This is a great forum and I've lurked here for awile and finally decided to register. I have always wanted a Harley but something always seemed to get in the way, mortgage payments, raising the kids and all that goes with that, etc,. Well, thats all done now and we've decided to finally act on this and buy a Harley. I'am 43 and still in good shape physically suprisingly enough as is my wife also. I have only limited riding experience though from in my 20's, occasionally riding a friends KZ900. I do however have a couple friends who ride Harleys and have much more experince and would help me learn how to ride. I also want to take a formal class on how to properly ride a big bike if I can find one in my area. I've kinda been looking at buying a new Harley vs a used one and from talking to my friends and reading the posts here and looking at the HD site I've kinda takin' a liking to an 06 Low Rider. Is this a good choice for a new rider and is it comfortable enough for longer rides? Its lighter than the Heritage ST which I also like. Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the forums from the Arizona Highlands. The Dynas are good turing bikes if you ride one up most of the time, but if you want comfort and carry a passenger on most trips you should take a long look at the touring models.

Thank you both for the welcome. I have been reviewing dealers and other comments from a link I got here and theres a dealership nearby that has good comments and sells at MSRP to anyone. They also have a Basic rider course. I will absolutely look at the Touring models. Comfort is big on the list so maybe thats the way to go...Ted, your RK looks great! I guess it comes down to going down and trying a couple bikes. Going to call them tomorrow to see about the course.

Scott

Welcome to the forum from NY

The lowrider/superglide are excellent choices in your situation. They handle well and are comfortable to go the distance on, especially if you get a better seat.

Scott,
Welcome from NJ. Your choice is a personal one ane I just finished making mine not too long ago. After going back and forth comparing comfort and the type of riding I intend on doing )for about 2 years) I got a RK. My wife is getting her license in August, and tends to be leaning towards the Dyna low rider. There are no right answers, its a all a personal thing. Whatever you chose, I am sure you will be thrilled with it. Welcome to the forum and ride safe.

Bill

Howdy Scott, welcome to the forum. Good luck on trying to get a Harley. It took me several years to finally be able to get mine, but the wait was worth it. Enjoy the ride.
