Pulling the trigger
Just joined the HD Forum and have been reading for some time as I am about to pull the trigger on a Harley Davidson Hertitage Softail Classic. I've owned 8 bikes in my life - a Honda 305 Superhawk, 3- Triump Bonnevilles, Honda 250XL Trail bike, 3 Goldwings, and rode a friends Harley 74 once and yes I am 65 in June. It is interesting to read about problems and solutions people have with motorcycles. Which is better and has less problems? Like most people, I tend to research before buying and I did before buying any of the above bikes. I could have found reasons not to buy any of them, however, I went with what appealed to me and my gut feeling and that's about all anyone can do. Historically, I have not had a major problem worth mentioning with any of my bikes and found them all to be trustworthy. Did the Triumps leak oil - you bet they did but what a great bike (wish I had kept them). I will say that the Goldwings were great dependable bikes but I believe I will have the same in the Softail. Riding a bike is as much paying attention to detail as anything else. You need to know where potential problems can rear there ugly heads and be prepared through preventive maintenance and well selected commonly needed parts and tools in your saddle bags even with a Goldwing. Ride on!
