First, i admitt i don't own a Harley. I did for 6 months: While i was working overseas in Afghaniland i trusted a friend of 10 years to look at a 2002(or '03?) Fat Boy for $5k. He reported back to me that it had been dropped at a low speed and needed cosmetic repair. Away went my money and six months later when i came home for Christmas. I went to my 'friends' garage where he was storing the bike for me to find the reason the bike went down was because the motor had siezed. Oil change gone wrong? By the looks of it, it wasn't at a very 'low' speed either. But thier stood my 'friend' laughing at my expense. Don't need to guess that we're not friends any more. Any salvageable parts had already been stripped. I cut my loss and had the local salvage yard haul it away.
Anyway...on a rice burner now. I just finished my 7th test ride on an HD (over a span of 3-4 years) and mother f***er i am tired of wanting one and not having one!. I am now looking at selling some of my things to: 1) collect enough money for a good down payment and 2) make room in my garage for the HD i choose to purchase.
So the reason i am here is to (hopefully) start learning more about HD's. If i can't find the info i need i will probably ask a lot of stupid questions. I didn't see anything in the rules that said i couldn't ask stuping questions
Durring my last visit/test ride i asked the salesman why the 'B' engines in the softtails need an external oil reservior and the Dyna/Touring models don't? I didn't get a proper answer. So i got home and tried searching online for a reason, including looking for 'oil routing diagrams' etc. etc. I couldn't find any info and that's what led me to join this forum. If anyone could point me to the correct answer that would be much appreciated
BTW. The answer he did give me kinda pissed me off but i kept my mouth shut because i still wanted to test ride. He told me the soft tails didn't have an oil pump so they required gravity feed. I may be dumb, but i'm not a complete moron (i think)
