Default Getting Back Into Harleys

Hello all, new to the forum and wanted to say hello. I`ve been out of the Harley action for more than 30 years and decided to get another one before I`m too old to enjoy it. The last "Hog" I had was a 1952 Panhead which was pretty hard on the kidneys due to the rigid frame. I`d like some input on what would be the best bike for a someone who like to wrench on their own bike. I`ve read where the TC engines require special tools for working on them, the older Shovelheads are prone to leak oil (use to that with a Panhead!) haven`t read much about the EVO engine. I`m looking for something in the years of 1985 thru 2000. Any help would be much appreciated. Only interested in big twin bikes, not Sportsters.

same here, was away from harleys for about 20+ years. bought a 90 evo softail custom about 6 years ago, really like it, easy to work on, that is when i did have to work on it, mostly the work i did was putting things on and fixing a few minor things. so id say a evo, should be able to buy one cheap and they seem to be built good. plus easy to work on. as for the ride, well my last bike was a hardtail, no comparison, the softail i bought i can ride all day without any problems at all, and im 61.
