77 Glide
Made my first couple of posts in the regional forum for NJ to say hello to local folks. Posting here now to say hi to all.
Name is Kirk, ride out of Bergen County N.J.. My wife and I belong to Bergen Hog andareproud members of thePatriot Guard. (www.patriotguard.org)
I own a 77 ElectraGlide (photos below). Ive had several others over the years but this one tops them on my favorites list.
I found the bike last year on Ebay and won the auction and drove up to NH to pick it up. Other than some dress up it still had most of its original parts including original tires etc. (including the working am/fm and 8 track player)
The history of the bike so I am told was that it was first owned by a Hells Angels Chapter President in CA. hense the colors red and white (took me several hours the first day to remove all thedecals and plaques)He passed away soon after buying the bike and the bike was sold at auction and went to MA to a guy who lived on an island. All he did was circles around the island it put little milage on it. It was then sold to the guy I bought it from who got it as an investment turn around. The Bike only had 6500 miles.
Wenamed her Wilma for her speed, (pedal power compared tothe newer machines and the total brake failure it had on day two and caused me to put boots to the pavement to get it to stop !!), her age and color.
First step was to replace all rubber, tires, hoses brakes etc .Been working on cleaning it up, adding more chromeand flash etc. Finding parts for it is half the fun of owning it. Found an original 77 tour box for it on ebay last month. Christmas in January !, the box really brings it back to the 70s in all its glory. The box was very faded but I used HD Swirl and Scratch treatment and dang the box now looks like it came from the factory. It only just started to mark its territory (shovelhead leaks arggg lol !!) so its going in the shop for that and other new stuff including a lot more lights and upgrading charging system (shovelhead electrics, ... Ride a shovelhead ride the best, ride withyour lights on for a mile and then push for the rest !!!!!).
Welp, wish us luck and safe riding with her. Hope to be an active member here.
Thanks,
Kirk, 77 Glide

Thanks for the history update on the bike. I saw the photos in one of your other posts and was curious.
Nice looking bike. '77 was the year I graduated from high school. Great year.
Here is some good tech info about the shovelheads.
