If you have money for a motor you have money to find something with lower mileage. I'd buy the manual straight from Harley. I'd guess an RK to be a great choice, but don't take mine or anyone elses advice. Go take some test rides.

Welcome to the forum!

Two weeks later, I found a bike the same year with 1/10th of the miles for a thousand miles more. Hell of a trade off, if you ask me!! Granted, the one I bought is mostly stock, but tinkering and adding parts and making it your own is half the fun, right? Good luck!!
saw similar posts in my other thread when i was asking what to expect to replace on a bike of that mileage. and just typed a big response to it a few minutes ago so ill quote it here. i'd love to hear if my line of thinking if off. like i said i know very little about road bikes and hd's in general

I read somewhere I could get the whole motor factory rebuilt for about $3500 and I'm guessing it would cost a lot more than that to personalize another bike. Am I wrong in thinking that? I see it as spending $10k for a bike i love vs spending $10k on a fresh bike that i either have to learn to like or spend another $5k to personalize to like.

I have seen a few dynas I liked but with my size I'm not sure I'd be comfortable and would look funny on a smaller bike. I'm a bit worried about that and its definatly influenced my tastes. For instance I love the look of the orange xl883r roadsters but I'm not sure it would have enough power and pretty sure I'd look like a pittbull ****in a squirrel riding it.

i've narrowed it down a good bit

i just sent an email to a local craigslist add on a 03 road king waiting to hear back on mialage and such, if its low miles it will probably be the one

if i dont hear back on the road king in the next day or two or if its high mileage i think im putting a deposit on a pristine 03 fatboy i found about 3hrs away. its got 27,000 miles with lots of chrome and add ons for about $8500 after taxes and all that.

also if anyones got any recomendations for quality affordable riding jackets (for big guys) or boots. i dont care if it isnt a hd item or is an off brand as long as its quality. i'd also love to hear of some affordable dot approved helmets that wont break the bank or make me look like some kind of weirdo. im open to just about any style at this point. i've only ever ridden with motocross style helmets up to this point and never tried anything else.
