First HD.. Soft tail deuce
Hello, my name is Thomas, currently in the Barstow area of So Cal.. Moving to Vegas on the 1st of March.
This will be my first Harley, but not my first bike. I raced GSXR's since 2001 in CMRA out in Texas. I have owned 4 "gixxers" currently i have a 2011 GSXR 750.. To be honest i have always enjoyed sport bikes, and despised Harley, mainly, and i'm being honest, because of Harley owners.. I've been to Daytona bike week a couple times living in Savannah, and just met some really bad people that ruined it for me, i don't understand why one doesn't "fit" in to riding a Harley if they don't own or wear old dirty jeans, 30 year old looking leather vests and nothing else under it and the lack of gear.. From the owners i have met, if i decided to wear proper gear, boots, leather jacket, and a full face helmet then ill be a poser.. and that's fine with me. I understand that in your world i ride jap crap and toys, i'm also fine with that, i'm hoping to find a new light into this world of bikes and i am going to try and do it with the most open mind that i can. I'm in no way trying to bring hate or insult anyone. with that said on to the bike
Its a 2001 soft tail deuce. my father is a young 52 years old, but was in a bike accident, well many when he was young and dumb as he says, but about 5 years ago maybe a bit longer a lady pulled out in front of him and messed him up a bit. The rest was from 25 years in the army and infantry. so he no longer rides his Harley and sticks to his 2010 Honda goldwing. This Harley was originally willed to me, but as i am the only one that has maintained it and rides it, my mom has hinted to me that for my 35th birthday my dad plans on giving it to me. i'm fine with waiting hopefully another 40 years before i got it lol. So i'm here to learn about the bikes, the people, the culture.. The bike rode pretty well, i was surprised, the seat needs to be changed out as its a piece of plywood, otherwise power seems good, sounds good for what it is, and runs good. there is a slight electrical problem.. something is draining the battery, but otherwise the bike is great..
So i hope to learn as much as i can. Thank you and here are some pictures

thats my toy, i dont drive it as much but i still love it and wont let it go.. my current car

Nice,I had a Cal Look that was Gene Berg'd out with a 2110cc w/dual weber 48s. Boy did I have fun with that car. It was my first car,and I would have kept it forever if some dumb twit hadn't ran a stop sign.
As far as the HD thing you will find good and bad like everything in life. Don't sweat it,just ride and enjoy the bike and lifestyle.

i know, thats why im trying to do this with an open mind, the sportbike crowd has just as many bad apples if not more.. from "stunta's" to parking lot pimp posers..
thank you.. i feel bummed out that when i lived in illinois i never stopped by the HD museum.. im sure there is tons of really cool stuff there and history
im in the process of looking for wheels and see what the fattest tire i can shove in the back.. looks to be a 180 for sure and maybe a 200.. i cant change out the tins.. and on lowering it a little.. the rear fender gab is huge and ugly IMO but i dont want it unrideable..
