Hey everyone, just wanted to say hello and that I'm a long time (account-less) lurker/reader on the forum. I currently ride sport bikes and am looking to see how the other half rides.
I've been riding for over 4 years now (purely sport) and have gone on two HD test rides. I test rode a Softail Deluxe and a Roadking. I have to say that I was quite surprised with how nice they both were only complaints were finding neutral and the brakes but I only spent 10 minutes on each so that's not a very fair assessment.
So on to the inquiry... I am looking in the HD space for a bike that can handle multiple hours on the saddle (300-500 miles weekends and road trip) while still being able to enjoy myself at the destination.
The dealer recommended the whole "buy the one you like the way it looks," and although that's awesome I just want to make sure that I'm picking up something that I'll enjoy for years to come.
With that said I think the softail deluxe is a gorgeous bike. I love the stylings and the classic look of it but the road king was like riding on a cloud. I'm not entirely sure though how that RK would look without the bags. Is the softail the kind of bike you can feasibly carve a ton of miles into without going into though? With a passenger?
I apologize in advance if the descriptions above were inaccurate or the questions not clear but I really have zero idea about the HD world, I'm still researching the differences between the two models.
Thank you all for the warm welcomes! Let me get cracking on this forum and fire up that search button I need to learn me more bout Harleys. Any VA people around want to switch bikes for a ride?
