1996 sportster problem

1996 sportster problem

I am new to the forum and new to harleys as well. I am nineteen and just bought my first bike a 1996 harley sportster 883 i LOVE it, and am currently turning it into a bobber however the other day i couldnt start my bike and after examining the bike over and double checking everything i noticed a clear tube coming out of what looks to be the battery on the left side of my bike, and it ran down to near the bottom of the frame near the rear wheel. the other end of the clear tube is disconnected and funny enough I cant locate where the other end of the tube goes in. my bike isnt leaking any fluid and i checked everything else over so im hoping this tube is my only problem as i have ridden the bike numerous times before the issue and have had no problems.

I am fairly new to motorcycle and not sure about the location etc of parts on the bike so if anyone could help me out that would be awesome thanks

Sounds to me like the fuel tank overflow tube. Being disconnected would not prevent bike from starting.

Good to know about the hose thanks for the input now to figure out why its not running i havent ridden it in a couple weeks but usually thats not an issue iv checked my choke hand controls fuel lines and valve my battery and starter motor sound fine i get good compression maybe old spark plug?? Thanks again
