gas cap?

Default gas cap?
i just got a 1989 heritage classic it has two gas caps the one on the left where the gas gage is on newer models will not come off .i was thinking i read some where it was reverse threads anyway id like to put on new caps but cant get the left side off any info would be great on things i need to know about this an things to keep a watch on i had a 90 fxr once but it had a stretched tank this is different fxr had the oil filter under the bike an this one is in front etc.
