As the title indicates I have not, nor do I currently own a Harley. In fact it has been over 30 yrs since I have ridden a street bike regularly, but I have spent a ton of time over those years on a dirt bike, single track woods rider.
Recently I've been bitten by the Harley bug at the tender age of 53 and have been spending some time talking with the salesmen at the local HD dealership as well as researching online. I'm 6'5" 240 lbs and really like the HD Street Glide. Everyone I've talked too has been steering me to the touring bikes because of my size and my intended use of the bike. I really don't plan to do any real long rides in the near future, probably day trips (my folks live 3 hrs away and my son is in college 2 1/2 hours away). But because of my large frame and weight I feel suited for the bigger bikes (don't want to look like a monkey riding a dog) even though I have limited recent experience on a street bike.
I'm going to look at a 2013 SG for sale by owner this afternoon. The bike has less than 3K miles and has tons of chrome accessories. If I can work out a decent deal I may buy it but my biggest concern is the bike is 2 1/2 hours away and I will have to ride it home. A little anxious that my first ride in over 30 years could be a 2 1/2 hour road trip which would include just about every terrain possible; interstate, city, busy highway, country roads, etc. on a bike I've never ridden before. Talk about baptism by fire....
Welcome to the forum. Throw some highway pegs on that SG for those long legs to stretch out. Don't worry yourself into a panic about riding it home. Take your time, give yourself plenty of room and most of all relax and enjoy the first ride on your new bike
