Wanted to say hi and ask a serious question.
I own a 2012 vrscf vrod muscle, Im the second owner bought it from a private party and recently had the rear tire changed. After changing the tire i bought new rear shocks and installed them myself wigh no unforseen issues.
Unfortunately after about 40 45 miles i began to hear the belt slapping on the top belt cover and didnt think too much about it as i was headed home anyways.
Well I get about 7 miles from the house and the slapping is very loud
Now and i notice the rear wheel hss a wobble. When i get to the house i notice that the belt cover has about a 2 in tear in it the pulley is off center, the rubber inside the pulley rim is shredded and there is a large chunk missing from the inside of the rim.
What in the hell would cause all this damage in less than 7 miles?
If you don't have one buy yourself the factory service manual, which will give you the correct routine for such a job, plus torque figures for critical fasteners. Also buy the factory belt tension gauge, which will enable you to set belt tension correctly, and check the torque figures for those shocks mounting bolts before you ride again!
Unfortunately the cause of your problems is doing something without first checking what you are letting yourself in for. Best of luck getting your bike back on the road - in a healthy condition! There is a VRSC model section of HDF where you can get help and advice from members who own one.
