Bought a new rear wheel last year and noticed that the sleeve between the bearings inside the wheel is not tight and is loose. Is this an issue or am I okay?
When you torque the axle nut, it will be tight. As designed, one bearing shoulders on the outer race side face. The other held by the interference fit is not. The inner space and inner races are what is torqued against. That way, there is not a torqued preload on the bearings. Study my out of scale CAD sketch may help. It shows a dual bearing setup for a Softail but still applies. Thru the old school manually adjustable tapered roller bearing in also. Your bike has single row bearings with side thrust built into bearing. However, do not confuse this with the torque thrust thru the inner race/center spacer. Preloaded bearings do not work well unless running in oil.

That's what I though. Once I had everything torque to specs it would stop but it didn't. Had the bike on the lift and I can hear it flop while I turn the wheel. I am going to check the torque again. I have changed out a few sets of wheels in the past and I have need had one sent to me with this problem.
