I just installed an American Elite on the front I have an Elite 3 on the rear. I have ran the Elite 3's for years, love them, but I can't find a front fitment for my 2005 Road King anymore.
Seems they are discontinuing them. My problem is the bike feels like I am riding on ice with this combination. I now have about 400 miles on the new front, the nubs still look like a new tire.
Has anybody had a similar experience? I live in the Columbia River Gorge where the wind always blows, it is quite a hairy ride at 70 mph. Not sure whether to keep riding thinking the tire will wear and settle in or if I should change the rear to and American Elite.
The rear only has about 2000 miles on it. Any input would be of great help.
I have the exact opposite on my 06. E3 still up front AE on the rear. So far I'm really liking the AE, really smooth on uneven roads, seems to have good traction. I'm only about 1500 miles in to it though. Looking forward to swapping the front when the time comes.
Loopners, I would suggest that you call Dunlop Motorcycle Tires customer help line and talk with one of their experts. I just had a chat with Dave Johnson, one of their help specialists and he helped me debunk some bad information that I was getting from others on this forum and also some of my own misunderstandings about tire age and integrity. In the case of tires, as someone else has suggested, why not contact the folks that make them and you will get a professional explanation rather than someone's opinion? Capt. Bob
I've been riding for decades and have in the past had the occasional mixed pair of tyres that didn't get on with each other, riding much as you describe. In my case that has usually been as a result of having tyres out of sync, one part worn, the other in need of replacement. The solution on those few occasions has been to swap the other tyre to the same brand.
As for Eagles, according to their factory website you should be fine, assuming you have an MT front? They list our size tyres for Elite, E2, E3 and E4, front and rear.

Reason: Added E2!
I have contacted Dunlap and I'm waiting for a response. My thoughts are the difference in the center compound in the tread is causing this we will see.
