2010 FLHTK 25k miles (yeah, I know...hardly ridden) Hence my question. I have the original front tire that came on the bike and it still has plenty of thread. The rear tire was replaced a few months ago. What concerns me is that the front tire is six years old. Should I replace because of age? By the way, it is not showing any signs of dry rotting. TIA!
I would replace it, although I'm sure some members may not. If you have a nice new one on the rear I'm sure you'll enjoy the ride with two new ones! I'll be replacing the tyres on my 2011 Sporty this winter, because they are getting old.
The rubber is getting hard and you have less traction. Normal riding, you may not notice, but it'll lock up easier and slide easier as it gets harder. Those stock Dunlops are the worst at this of any tire brand I've used, too. They're tough tires, though, as far as holding up other than traction, your Dunlops might go another 10 years... if you like drifting around corners.
If your wheels have rubber valve stems, I'd replace those with steel. Rubber stems harden too. I had one break off a newly purchased used bike when I tried putting air in it, fortunately in my garage.
