I've made the same choice in the past and if the nail / screw was near the
center of the tread I've plugged them without any problems. Now if the
puncture was not near the tread's center I'd be too worried about it - just me.
Every time I have had my tire changed with the ride on gel, it was all concentrated to the contact area, none on the rim, I asked the tech if it caused him trouble and always they say, no issues whatsoever. I was curious if it was a mess .
I'm guessing there is a considerable amount of difference between the rotational speed and resulting centrifugal force in a bike tire as opposed to a tractor tire.

Its not like you put gallons of Ride-on in your MC tire. My BO takes 2 x 8oz bottles in the 250 rear and 1 x 8oz bottle in the front. Indy who changes my tires has no issues whatever with Ride-on during changes. I can attest the stuff balances tires beautifully without weights. Haven't had a flat with it so dunno bout that.

Same here, I use 10 ounces in. The back tire. The front uses 8 ounces.
the only boot i would trust is a truck boot used in 18 wheeler tires. the auto glue on self vulcanizing is good but not like the fused boot and it is way thicker than a automotive boot.
like always, any hole near the sidewall is a no no but tread area probably not bad.
the old saying " err to the safe side" is never wrong.
I picked up a nail on my new 2012 roadking with about 500 miles on it. I had the tire taken off and patched on the inside. Ran it till it was bald and had no problems.

I will admit, I have plugged and patched a tire before and ran it. Plug alone, too risky. Plugged and patched with a vulcanized patch, no worries.
The admitted "mixed results" is what would scare me. Sometimes it works well, and sometimes they fail. Think about that when you are rounding a tight turn at 50, and touching the floor boards.
