Personally I have run plugged and patched tires with no problem. However I do agree with making sure the only two tires are in perfect shape because it's probably one of the most important safety items. Last resort you could even run a tube if need be.

If the tire is only a few hundred miles I say patch it. They get expensive so why waste a fixable tire?

I have had that happen to me and my tire guy offered to patch it from the inside but I just bought another one. It wasn't worth the risk but it also only cost me $250.

I can say that I have plugged and booted and re-tubed tube rim tires and @ $800 in a couple weeks I am glad to say that I have only had to make this decision 1 time in 40 years with tubeless tires. I think I have run tubeless tires on 3 of the 5 Harleys I have owned and maybe 20 years total run time tubeless. That said I may be 80 years old before I need to worry about making this decision again. Who knows, we may have rubber filled solid tires by then.....
