Well the other day I woke up to a flat tire. Found a screw in it. We have what they call a mushroom plug kit at work which has a head on it & acts like a patch, so I decided to try one on it. Rode it to work & back a couple of days and then went out to get going to work & it was flat again. I used soapy water to see where it was leaking at & found it leaking at the plug. So I decided to pull the tire off & pull the plug out & put a patch on it. I also noticed when I plugged it that the carcass was thinner even though the tire still had good tread. When I pulled the tire off I noticed a split in the tread & as I looked closer it was splitting all the way around the tire in the tread. So I ordered a new tire. It's a 150/80/16 Kenda Retroactive. So a time stamp at 126K miles. Maybe I can know how many miles & when I put it on now. I thought I had done this with the Avon that I had on but cannot find any references as to when or how many miles I got on it. Man I wish I could fit a car tire on it, I have tried Dunlops, Metzlers, Kendas, Shinkos & Avon Cobra. They all seem to wear out quickly, seems like every year I have to put on a new tire.
Judging by your Tire size you have a pre-09 bike as do I. Our tires last about 1/2 as long as the newer ones. You can fit a car Tire. Google Dark Side Tire and you will find a lot of info. Including on this forum. As I recall there is a foreign taxi that has a tire that fits our bikes. Good Luck
I'll preface my statement by acknowledging that we all do what is within our own comfort zones.
That said, I will never buy another Kenda for a motorcycle. My opinion is that they are so cheap because they aren't very sticky to the road. I had a very bad real world incident that led me to this conclusion.
Just my own opinion, OP. If you have confidence, head on!
Lots of forum folks rave about the mileage they get out of the Dunlop American Elites. Most of what I read about is the Elite 3. Seems now there's an Elite 4. Probably my next purchase.
With many years following tire threads on this form I have found what a lot of mileage is to one is just monthly miles to another. There are so many factors to take in when talking tire mileage. Most are after Mileage plus performance. For every motorcycle tire brand there is a motorcycle rider to promote that brand. When is the last time you saw a motorcycle tire commercial on TV, that's what I thought. Good luck finding the one you want but even when you do you will change again.

I got about 15k on the ones that came on my 2012 Ultra....rear had 0 tread when I replaced, so, should have pulled a bit sooner then I did.
Also, they are so pricey so I haven't reinstalled any. I buy 'name brand' on sale....will see what the next sale is!

I've been running Dunlops on and off since 1989. I'm getting a new rear for the 07 SG and it will be a Michelin this time. The mileage I'm getting out of the Dunops is dismal at best. I ride one up, proper inflation, unloaded, no burnouts etc and they just don't last.
