Default Rotor bolt pattern

Was looking at a new set of wheels and was told that the rear stock rotors will work but the front will need new rotors as the bolt pattern is different than stock.

Went and looked at some rotors online as the price they are charging for the rotors is more than i want to spend and I can't find anything at all about rotor bolt patterns or even remotely how to find the right ones. Some rotors say "will not work with stock bolt pattern".

Ok great. What pattern do they work with? How is this measured or how do you order a rotor for a custom rim?

It would help if you told us what wheels you've been looking at! As for stock Harley wheels there are two basic hole patterns, one on a small radius, which has been used for decades unchanged, then a more recent one, used on some front wheels, which has a larger radius. Check the current Harley bike range to see the two styles, as most Sportsters still use the old small one, Touring bikes use the large pattern.

As for rotors for aftermarket custom wheels either of the above may fit, but you should check first with the manufacturer. It is wise to check a manufacturer's website before visiting dealers.
