the balance is only as good as the tech to balance the wheel.

I just replaced my spoke wheels with stock mag type wheels on my '05 road King. The front rim I bought used, had the rotors left on it which were in better shape then mine, and not warped so I used them. Before I put the rims on the bike for good, I had new bearings installed and new tires, and brakes. I checked to see how balanced it was before I put the spacers on and cranked it down. It was perfect. I did the same with the rear wheel, but had to swap my rotor and pulley first. Again it was right on the money balance wise. I don't know how many miles were on the rims I bought, so I decided to do the bearings. Plus my rear tire had a 1 inch cut in the middle of the tread, It had 13k on it, but I think I could have gotten another 2 k from it if it wasn't damaged. The front tire had about 10 k on it and still looks good. I've been looking for mag wheels for a couple of years, but it seems not too many people get rid if them. At least for my year bike. Glad I won't have to mess with tires and bearings for a while. BTY, my old bearings had 73 k on them and appeared fine. I've never had to change wheel bearings due to wear before. Just did it as a precaution.,,,

If the drive sprocket/pulley you are referring to is an Isolated Drive System (IDS), you are supposed to remove the IDS system before balancing.
Since the cush drive has some play in it, the balancing of the rear tire will be more accurate with it removed.

After having some bad vibes in more than a couple of bikes over the years the best thing i ever did was to use Ride-On in my wheels. I has an Enforcer wheel that was so out of balance it would shake at 50mph. Just standard practice now to install it after having a tire mounted.

Hmm, I once tried the Dynamic balancing beads on a sports car and found the beads jammed the Schrader valves. Does the sealer create a mess when checking air pressure??
Thx, Olmoose

No it does not. It stays in the center of the tire and provides punture protection too. I like it !

I have used Ride On in both the front and rear of my bikes for the last several years. I will never use anything else. Not only does my bike ride smooth as silk, but it might save me from a flat one day....
