Default Bearings

Hello all. Got a 05 Heritage.
MY front wheel bearings are starting to get some slop on them. I ordered a bearing kit, but come to find out. The bearing in my wheel are the tapered style which is not what the books call out for my particular year. It's obvious the wheel is from a pre 2k bike I assume. My question is. If I were to remove the bearing races. Would I be able to use the sealed style bearing (non tapered) kit on this wheel? Thanks

Without knowing exactly what wheel you have, we can`t say whether the Timken bearing belongs in that wheel, or it has been adapted, modified, jury rigged...

What do you mean the bearings are starting to get some slop in them?

Assuming that the Timkens are the correct bearing for that wheel:

The end play may have been incorrectly set.

Remove the wheel, pull out the seals, clean the bearings.

Before you repack the bearings measure and (if needed) set the bearing end play.

Once the end play has been set correctly repack the bearing and replace the seals.

After that all you need to do is pull the seals and inspect the bearings each time you replace a tire.

Those Timken bearings will last the life of the bike.

So. My wheel ended being from pre '99.
ENeed up cleaning and repacking my bearings and new seals. Fortunately my step son has an 04 that the bearings I purchased will fit. Gotta love bikes that are pieces together from other bikes. Thanks fellas
