Default Thoughts on Avon Cobras

I live in the Midwest and am dealing with winter at the moment but like to have my scoot ready for riding first week of March. I am close enough on tire wear to just replace them when I take her in for a oil change in a month or so. I have been running Avon Cobra's for some years now, but the last two sets didn't seem to give me the miles I used to get out of them. I have not tried the Avon "Chromes" so I'm asking what those that run Avon's think of them. I know they used to be a softer tire where milage was never top notch but they always gripped good in the twisties and on wet roads yet still gave decent milage.
I'm mostly a flatlander these days so milage and wet road handling are above corner gripping. Thoughts?

Can't get a better wet weather tire than Avon's, spent many years in the midwest myself always ran them. I'll sacrifice a bit of mileage for peace of mind with handling.

That's what I've run on both my Heritage and my Road King. Nothing better on a wet surface.

I haven't tried the Cobras but I have tried the Venoms and the times that I got stuck riding in the rain, they did a great job for me. Based on my experiences, I think they are good tires but to each their own.

My first Avons were Venoms, last ones I bought were Cobras. I don't worry about tire life, just getting the best traction, and I've never ridden on anything better, I won't take a chance on anything else unless I run into a size Avon doesn't make.

I too feel pretty much the same way but, I was wondering more if there are folks that used to run Avons but switched and why. I read many posts on here about tires getting way more milage than I seem to be getting. So, for example...... if someone used to ride Avon's but now ride Dunlaps and get 95% of the wet grip but 40% more tire life. At 500$ a set plus install..... that adds up quick if you're only getting half the tire life. Truth be told unless I get caught in a unexpected rain I rarely ever ride in the rain anymore. Just like my ride to work low temp was anything above the freezing point, with rare exception if the low aint 50 or higher, I'm in the pickup. I used to go to places like Maggie Valley once or twice a year so the leaning grip of the Avon's played into it but, I don't make those trips near as much as I used too..... most of my trips these days include airfare.
Thanks for all the input, guys!

My 900lbs Road King will probably keep the stock Dunlops as it's my couch bike, my causal ride it doesn't get pushed and living in Ca. wet roads aren't a common event.

The 600lbs shovel on the other hand will always be Avon's, the chicken strips get real thin on those as I tend to get frisky with her and the twisties out here.

Like anything else, right tools for the job at hand.
