I'm not sure if you took care of this already, but SEM trim black paint is the best paint I have used for many things black. Its coverage is great and it lays down very flat (not the color, but evenly). You can get it in various shades of black, Matte, Semi-gloss, and Gloss. Again, SEM is the brand.
