Default Bad tire?

I received a call from the guy that has been mounting my bike tires for years, they were trying to mount a wide white wall stock dunlap on the rear of my 05 heritage. They can not get the bead to seat on the pulley side. He said he gooped it up 5 times and put 80 pounds of air in it and it still won't seat. Being a laced rim it has a tube in it. Anyone ever have a defective tire that just won't seat? Or should I try more air pressure? I trust this guy, as I know he has mounted hundreds of bike tires.

I am sure he knows what he is doing, sometimes they can be tough to seat. Be sure the rim is clean, which I am sure it is. The tire should have seated well before 80 pounds, I won't go more than 60. One trick to use is a thin tie down strap, twist it to make a rope out of it, then wrap it around the tire and dead in the center. You can then tighten down on the strap and it will pull the center in and put presssure on the sidewalls to help seat the tire. I am also sure he is using a good tire slick to mount with.

I brought it home and popped the bead on the pulley side, rim perfectly clean. I soaped it up and got a noticeable pop at about 45 lbs. Looked the same as before, about 1/8" of rim showing all around the wheel, where as the brake side is flush. It has to be the tire. I test rode it up to 75 mph and rides fine.

I agree, with that POP, she is seated.

Glad you got it to seat. For me the key has been soaping it up generously so it almost slips on. Never had any trouble seating Dunlops, but had the devil of a time with a Bridgestone I bought for my Dyna when Dunlops weren't available due to the strike.

Shouldn't a Heritage have laced wheels with tubes? At least my 06 has.
Must have changed wheels?

Yes, if you read my first post carefully, I state it has laced wheels with tubes.
