I bought a fully customized 2002 Dyna Low Rider at a Sheriff's drug dealer sale. The bike was completely redone: S&S engine, PM wheels - forward controls and hand controls - rotors - brakes - hydraulic clutch, fat tire kit, dakota digitals, new tank, custom seat, Pro-One front end, custom paint.....
My question is this; I can't tell what type of brake fluid was used in the new PM hydraulic clutch or the new PM brake system: DOT 4 or 5. Is there a test or visual way to assess this? It looks like most fluids to me. I'd like to think they used a silicone DOT 5 with this high-end stuff but who knows.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Paint a small test piece and tape it down the middle. Brush one side with dot4 and the other half with dot5 . Dot3 and 4 will remove the paint and dot 5 won't. Let the paint cure for a couple of days, or find something already painted and test on that. I can't help you with smell differences and colour is not indication. I'm not into taste testing either.
