Default Innertube replacement question

This is my first bike with innertubes and I have a question. When you change your tire, do you also need to change the innertube?

No you dont have to change the tube, but I would recommend it and while you are at it go for a heavy duty version, I think the last one I did was a dunlop tube but not sure now.

If the tube has been in there for more than 2 years I would change it at the next tyre change. Having said that I have seen some pretty old tyres and tubes on the road and still hold together.

I've given my opinion and what I would do but..................

Its an important safety issue so my advice would be to ignor me and every one else and seek the advice of a trusted tyre fitter, who can check it out when they change out the tyre.

The shop I use will not use the old tube when putting a new tire on. That being said. The last time they put a new tyre on I had to take it back two times because the dumbass tire changer pinched the tube.

Bad idea to keep using the old tube...and here's why...

Tubes, like tires, flex...and, over time, fatigue. Therefore, you have a greatly increased risk of the tube simply failing from fatigue...and of course if the tube fails, the tire goes kaput with it. So you have in essence trashed a perfectly good tire due to the tube failure. Simply replace the tube when replacing the tire.

Also, tire manufacturers will recommend that you use their tubes with their tires. I know, I know...you're probably thinking that they say that because they want to make more money...perhaps that is true...but it is also true that if it is found that their tire failed due to a tube failure from another manufacturer's product, they cannot and will not help you, as they have zero liability with that. Too bad, so sad.

I hope that this helps!

Cheers

I had this same question….. Replacing my rear that is less than a year old. I’m thinking if the indy will let me slide with it – I’m going to reuse the tube. Surely a tube can ride for two years without any issues. I only bought this bike last Christmas.

Tire = $90.00
Tube = $20.00
Peace of Mind = PRICELESS
