Thought I'd run this by you folks. 2008 Softail, rear brake dragging. Opening the bleeder, hot or cold, shows no residual pressure in the system. Flushed system with fresh brake fluid. Pulled caliper and pads. Pushed pistons out most of the way and cleaned. Placed a thick flat piece of metal in place of the rotor and pads. Pressing and releasing brake pedal shows pistons are not returning well and bind the aforementioned metal piece somewhat. Ordered a caliper rebuild kit. Anything else I should consider?
About ready to take my 2008 RG back to the shop for the second time for rear brake dragging.
I went through a set of rear pads in 6500 miles.
I don't ride the brakes. I always keep off them unless needed.
My rear brake will start heating up after a short ride and build pressure in the system.
I was told there was a residual valve/port that allowed fluid to feed back into the reservoir.
The system will build pressure with heat and rear caliper will start dragging if this port is not allowing fluid through.
I'm gonna give the dealer one more chance at fixing the issue then I will do it myself.
Hope this helps
Did you try cracking the bleeder open when it was hot/cold? That, I would think, would show if there was any residual pressure in the system. Mine showed no residual pressure which makes me think it a caliper issue or at least back there somewhere.
