Default 21" Wheel ?

How is the strength of the 21" wheels these days? My 1988 FXSTC came with 21's stock and they were not very strong at all. I bent my stocker pretty quick and bought a nice 21" aluminum mag. Bent that as well and wound up going with a 16" cat squasher and never looked back. Never thought again bout 21's because the 16's on the softail road great, just stuck right to the road. Anyway, I like the look of 21's on baggers, thinking bout putting one on my streetglide but I'm a little distrustful of them from past experiance. I'm going back 20+ years when I ran them.

There are 23" and even 26" front wheels out there these days. I don't recall reading any problems with them. Call in the Touring forum and see what they are up to with large wheels in there.

No problem with my 21. Most say no problems, but there have been a few who don't like it. I love mine. I like the looks and to me it handles just as good as when stock

how much you like a 21" rim will depend more on how you ride your bike, and your location in the country.

Here in MI our killer pot holes eat 21" rims for breakfast, In Cali the streets are like glass in comparison.

Local techs here highly advise against 21" wheels on touring bikes (esp if you ride 2 up alot), they suggest that "most" people would prefer, the performance of the 18" wheel.

If you bike is a show bike, or bar hopper than a 21" should be great, but if high mileage touring is your plan go 18".
