Default Which tires?

I'm a little new to all this. I have a 2008 Ultra Classic and I'm ready for new rubber. I could use some advise. I know Dunlop are stock but I've been told about Michelin Commander 11's and was wondering what if any feedback you might have. Also does Dunlop have a "better than factory stock" upgraded tire.
Thanks for any reply….Peter

Peter, we sell a lot of tires and the main brand that we sell are Metzeler ME 880's. There are plenty of other options out there as well. I prefer a sticker tire on my bike to a tire that will get a longer life as I feel the softer stickier tires help soak up the bumps in the road and I do plenty of canyon riding as well. What is right for one person may not be right for another. The mileage on the Metzelers will most likely not be as good as on the dunlops but what they lack in mileage they make up other ways. The other thing I really like is the fact that tires have a different round on them than stock making it much easier to throw the bike around in the twisties.

Peter, hi from the UK and welcome to HDF.

If you go to the Touring section of HDF you will find a lot of tyre threads. Dunlop make other tyres and another brand to consider is Avon, my favourite. You already know of Michelin and Metzeler, which covers the main brands that get a mention on here.

Dunlop stock tyres give high mileage, but lose out on other qualities. Avon certainly give a smoother and more comfortable ride, as well as better grip in all conditions.

There is no substitute for trying other brands yourself! A change of brand can give more benefits that you might expect.

Dunlop, best over all mileage, handling and value.
If I were being paid to race it I would have other options.
