Exclamation 89 Brake upgrade

I have a 1989 Ultra Classic Tour Glide. I want to put on 2008 Harley tour wheels, but I want to use the 2008 rotors. I was wondering if there are any calipers that will bolt to the 89 forks but use the 2008 rotors.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. 1990 Glide here, owned from new, but far from stock. You are covering several things with your query!

Your bike has 3/4" wheel bearings, but the '08 wheels have 25mm bearings, so your new wheels are not going to be simple to fit. The rear pulley will not swap over, from old to new, as it has a smaller central mounting hole than the '08 wheel. In addition your current rear brake rotor is larger in diameter, also thicker than an '08, so will not work with your current rear brake caliper.

Moving to the front, your new wheel will not work with your current axle and to fit later calipers will require adapters, to mount them on your sliders. In other words IMHO there is nothing about your plan that is straight-forward! It can be done, but the list is long and many more parts will be required.

Thank you for the reply. I think I will be able to make the front wheel work. I haven't started working on the rear wheel yet.

I have a later swingarm, wheel and rear brake in my own bike, partly to upgrade braking, but also to get the later beefed up swingarm.

I found an '07, but any year from 02-08 can be used. If you want to know more take a look at my thread here, but get a long drink first!

I was able to use the 08 rear wheel with a 89 front rotor. I had to modify shims to get the proper alignment but it worked out. Thank you for your replies.
