Default wider wheel for a 2000 dyna?

I'm looking to squeeze a 180 rear tire into my 2000 super glide sport that currently has a 180. I run the Dunlop gt 502 on the rear now. They make this tire in a 180 for 17 x 4.5 wheels. I know the deuce has a 17 x 4.5 wheel that uses the same 3/4 wheel bearings as my dyna. I've found a couple theads where people have done this swap. I'm also interested in the 06 on 07 dyna cast 10 spoke wheels that use 1" axles. They are also 17 x 4.5. I believe I could swap bearings and the inner spacer to get this to fit. Would possibly have to play with wheel spacers. I know I need to go to a wider fender and may also have to do a chain conversion. Has anyone put either of these wheels on an early dyna? Anyone know of any other options? Preferable Harley wheels that could be had used on ebay. I won't rule out aftermarket wheels either.

I have a 160/70 on a Deuce softail 17x4.5 wheel in my Glide. That tyre is almost as wide as a stock fender! I use a 1 1/8" belt, but if you used a stock softail 1" belt, it will run on your current front pulley just fine. I applied brute force to my stock fender, but to use a wider tyre, you will indeed need to replace your fender. I suspect everything else will go together OK.

I found myself a decent bare wheel cheap on Ebay (a little over 100 bucks IIRC) and did a complete install without a tyre, to prove clearances etc. Then I had a tyre fitted and repeated the above, without the fender, to confirm everything worked. Finally I sorted out my fender, so I didn't spend right up front to fall flat! Later bikes than yours have wider fenders, but I don't know what is involved in fitting one.

I suggest you run this plan under the noses of the Dyna section rather than in here. You'll get more interest and may find some bright spark who has already done it!

Thanks. Much appreciated. I will repost in the dyna section.
