Default Hippo build started with pics

I started my Hippo build to day. A Hippo build is 1550 big bore with flat tops valves reliefs enlarged, SE Performance heads, S&S 570 gear drive and a few other odds and ends. It is my hope that any one else doing a build might find something that might help them in the pics. I have never been into a HD engine before. If I can do it any one can. This build is a little more complecated than some as cams with heads are not bolt in and may require clearancing. WILL find out soon. This is what I got done Today. Started at 1:00 after I got up from graveyards and I quit at 5:15. The only problem I had was the 04 HD manual doesn't tell you to remove the oil seperator breather boltsb4 rocker boxes can be removed. Will keep posting untill done. Hope his helps some one. Will awnser any questions if I can.

Nickball do not have parts an home as doing at my Dads house but how do you know about leak? Not saying I don't at all just courious. Had SE gasket in there. Thanks for support. Went well to day except couldn't figure how to get plug out of cam plate with O ring before I baked it! Didn't want to mess something up. FYI It just pulles out. Got cylinders off, pistons removed, studs removed, old cams out and new 570 in, checked pinion run out. Was .002 with plate and.0025 w/o. Good to go.Latue spring in plate, new o rings in oil pump, old inner bearings out and new ones in. George tools worked great! Got to work next 2 days 4 am-4pm so will start again Fri. Heating cam plate to 300-325 for 10 min. worked great. Cams just fell in.

I see two things wrong here.....first you shouldn't lift your bike with bungee cords pulling on the connecting rods and second you need a new grill

Nice pics, keep up the good work

Well the grill served the purpose! Neen to burn it off be4 I use again. The cam plate was kind of tough! The bungey cords are just holding small tension on rods to hold them up when I turned wheel to check run out.

Good evening JLOCKHART29 I just built 04 & 06 roadkings and put 10.5 to 1 pistons, 585G cams and had to grind the engine case for clearence of the cam lobes on the 04 but not the 06, Just below thewhere the inner cams bearings are & you must check thebottom side of thelifter for cam lobeclearence on the topback lobes of the cams when there are the top position (MIN. 030 clearence). ( Hope u understand/LOL) & also on a gear drive you gotta grind the timing cover case for I think (min. .030 )clearence between gear on case on what I say the left side of case as your looking at bike (second bolt down i believe/ maybe third) USe clay to measure clearence, PLAYDO works good or machinist clay. YOu only have to grind one spot of the inside of the timing cover, the rest clears fine. Depending on what springs you run check the clearance of the rocker box to outer spring on the intake side also. GOODLUCK
