Default V&H Duals vs Stock - Dyno results

Today I installed V&H True Duals on my 2005 Road King Classic with 20K miles. The bike is a Stage 1 TC88 with SE Air Cleaner, K&N filter, PCIII, and V&H Ovals.

Last fall it was dyno'd but not tuned, with that exact set upand stock header pipes. It dyno'd out at 66.65 HP and 72.72 Torque. As you can see,the A/Fwas a bit fat, but for comparison purposes those numbers are solid. Dyno chart is below:

Today, after installing the True Duals (nothing else), it was dynoed at 69.20 HP with 76.20 torque. After tuning we got 73.86 HP and 77.18 torque. Numbers I am very pleased with. Chart below:

The biggest surprise was the sound! The True Duals absoultely unleash the sound of the Ovals under load. At idle, the sound is a bit deeper and more resonant, but the volume is much the same. Under load, the pipes open up and roar with a significant increase in volume and sound quality. To my ear, they soundgreat and I can't recommend them enough.

The best news was Mrs. Booksloves the new sound and volume, too!

Kudos to Aaron Miller at Miller's Motorworks, Newfield, NY for theinstall and tune.

I hope this post and these charts are of value to someone contemplating this mod.

Nice numbers. I have the same set up on my Street Glide except I have Wild Pig slip ons. I love the sound of my bike since I installed the V&H Duels. I have not had mine dyno`d yet but it runs very strong compared to stock. I am happy with the way it runs now and am not sure a dyno would be worth the extra money. How much changing of the map did they make? I am running a map from Jamie at Fuel Moto right now with a few changes that I have done to eliminate the decel popping. Overall I really like the way it runs and I am getting right at 47 mpg with it on short rides. I have not had time for a longer ride to compare mileage.

Ride Safe,

Mike

The PCIII was loaded with the canned map for the Stage 1 with V&H Ovals on the stock pipes. It took 10 runs to get the AF correct across the board - it was generally rich. I recommend a good tuner, if you have one in your neck of the woods.

I went into this pipe mod convinced I would lose low end torque and that the bike would sound about the same. I was pleasantly surprised and frankly, it couldn't have worked out better.

The results are good to see, I am running essentially the same setup on my Ultra, I haven't had it dyno'd but I have been pleased with the results I got from the pipes and ovals, it sounds excellent.

Who offers the best prices on the true dual setup that your talking about? Also can I just change to the Vance & Hines true dual headers for now anduse my S/E Street Performance mufflers until I get a lil more change in the pocket?

M&M had them for just over $300. I think Eastern Performance may have them slightly cheaper. You can put whatever standard slip-on you like on these duals, but I can only vouche for the performance numbers with the ovals.

I highly recommend Eastern Performance. If you buy off of their eBay store you get free shipping. I searched and forund their eBay auction. They are actually a little higher than I paid about a month ago, but still a great deal from a GREAT supplier!!

The only thing I can say on this topic is this - install them and crack the throttle the first time from a rolling start in 1st, burn it up through the first three gears and you will have no regrets. Trust me. . I did duals and ovals with a PCIII - if there is a power loss, you would to see it on a chart because you could not tell on the road. My buddy hasan'03 RK (pipes and stage 1) and I can smoke him from a rolling start.
Besides if you are worried about power, think of it this way - how many times have you got on your bike and said "I am going to go out and look for a race today because that is why I bought a Harley" vs. "I am going to get on the bike, ride, listen to the pipes and enjoy the afternoon because that is why I bought a Harley".

Amen folkxrock, I couldnt agree with you any more. I also have duals and think my bike runs great. I bought a harly for the looks and the sound not to drag race. Buy the way those are good #s for those so called power robbing duals.
