I went to check the air in the rear suspension of my 07 roadking custom and the air pressure read 0. I just bought a harley air pressure pump with guage and it reads zero air pressure in the suspension. When I try and pump air into the suspension no air goes into the suspenion. I have no idea if this is a suspension problem or pump problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
try using the pump on something else, like a bicycle tire or something. if you can't get it to build up pressure there, then i would say the pump is bad, take it back and get a new one. if it does build pressure, then have the service dept look at the shocks, they are still under warranty right?
Just got my 2006 Road King Custom out of the shop for it's 1k service, I also had 0 presssure in rear suspension.HD replaced theair values that were apparently not holdingair, allowing it toleak out, it may be part problem.
I actually have to remove my air vavle from the mounting bracket so the air pump vavle will seat far enough to allow air to get into the lines when I pump it. I get where I want and put it back in its mounting bracket and put the cap on it. Mine holds pressure great, but it also came from the dealer with no air in it. Usually for 2 up for us is about 290 and 12- 15lbs is good.
They usually come from the dealer with no air, it is technically OK to ride with no air & the dealer has no idea how much you need in it.
I bought a new RK Custom in 04 & the dealer told me on delivery that I needed to set the air pressure. I did, & tried all kinds of different air pressure settings, but those shocks rode like a lumberwagen no matter where they where set. In over 30 years of riding, I have never had a worse riding shock.
I finally gave up on those, replaced them with 12" standard spring Progressive 440's & sold the HD junk on ebay. The 440's sit at the same height as the HD lowered air shocks, but ride 1000 times better.
Another item to check is the pump itself: If I remember correctly the pump mechanism screws on (look where the pump piston comes together) and mine was loose when I got it from dealer, same results. After I tightened it up, I had better luck.
I am a fat guy and run 25-30 psi in my shocks, and it holds my fat @ss up just fine. I did have to remove the air valve to add air, like JollyRogers. Reminds me, it has been a month or so since I checked it. Will do it tomorrow. I need to get one of those harley pumps. I use a bike pump and air gauge. Hard to get it set the wayI do it, but I gotta make due with what I got, for now.
