Default Still a little confused about fwd controls

I read alot of posts. Some say you don't have to remove the whole primary.By using a hacksaw you can remove the shifting spline from the front. My question is what about the inards. Are there other parts that need to be removed.I plan on buying the kit this week ,and I would like to know what I'am in for.I bought the service manul today it is very vague.

You can just get a cap to cover the shaft.

I don't understand why everyone feels they have to remove the stock shifter when installing forwards. I made a small bracket to attach it to the engine bolt and then capped the end. It looks good and enables me to easily switch back to mid-controls and it don't look too bad either.Don't be so quick to pull the primaries and remove the shaft.

If you buy the Harley forwards, the instructions will tell you to remove the inner primary to remove the shifter shaft. I recently installed these forwards following the hacksaw method described in posts on this forum. In my opinion, this is the way to go.

The shifter shaft is cut from the backside of the inner primary, then slides out. There are no parts inside the primary case which need to be messed with. Once the shifter shaft is remove, there is a chromeplug which comes with the forwards and is pressed into the hole in the outer primary to cover it. Loctite is used to help secure it. This cap sits almost flush with the outer primary and, in my opinion, is almost not noticable. To me, it looks better than the caps that come with other kits and slide over the shifter shaft.

Search posts created by "WS6 Formula". It was his information I used when I installed my forwards. I has a great looking Low Rider and writes well. I had a lot of confidence in what he information he offered.

Skull, I just saw your post. You did a good job with your brackets. They look professionally done and offer a good alternative to cutting the shaft.

Just went throught this with the stealer. I wanted the 92-05 version (where you don't have to disassymble #5, and it uses the cap) for my 07 FDX. Won't work, they say, I say why? Won't work. Well found out they will work from a post in here. Purchase the 92-05 version and the longer 07 shift rod, is what the post said. Now, I must admit. I was so pissed at the stealer for not knowing their own parts. That I ordered the Kuryakyn parts, received them 7-6-07 putting on this Wednesday. Can let you know how it goes if you would like?

Iwould not recommend just loosening and tighteningcase bolts like its nothing. Never mind putting a devise between the case and the bolt head.
